Brendan Gleeson has scooped up the IFTA award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the acclaimed The Banshees of Inisherin.
The 68-year-old has received acclaim for starring in Martin McDonagh's hit comedy-drama The Banshees of Inisherin opposite fellow Dublin star Colin Farrell. Brendan has in recent months also been nominated for a BAFTA and an Oscar award for his role as Colm Doherty, who has a falling out with pal Pádraic (played by Colin Farrell).
At tonight's Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs) Brendan was announced as the winner of the Best Supporting Actor in a Film award at tonight's ceremony at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre.

Brendan is used to staring in big movies like the Harry Potter franchise and The Guard. He started his career in acting while he was teaching children English and Irish in the now defunct Catholic Bellcamp College in North County Dublin.
Brendan started his film career at the age of 34 and his early works include playing Michael Collins in The Treaty and starring in The General as Irish gangster Martin Cahill. Brendan is also a keen musician and even came up with the traditional Irish music tune his character plays in The Banshees of Inisherin.
Highlights from the Deirdre O'Kane-hosted ceremony will air on RTE 2 on Monday from 9:35pm.
