Brenda Snipes resignation letter: 'I am ready to pass the torch'

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ In her letter of resignation as Broward County supervisor of elections, Brenda Snipes said it has been her "passion and honor" to serve in the job for the county's voters.

Her letter of resignation to Gov. Rick Scott, dated Sunday, doesn't mention any of the controversies that plagued the 2018 midterm election or other contests.

Instead, she noted her 15 years in the job _ to which she originally committed to serve the remainder of a term in the early 2000s. Instead, she won election to four full terms in the post.

"Although I have enjoyed this work tremendously over these many election cycles, both large and small, I am ready to pass the torch," she wrote.

Snipes' resignation is effective Jan. 4. Scott becomes a U.S. senator on Jan. 3. Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera could appoint a replacement while he's governor or leave the task to Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis, who is inaugurated Jan. 8.
