Breathtaking street art appears in shadow of Anglican Cathedral

A giant 50ft mural has been created in the shadow of the Anglican Cathedral by a Brazilian artist.

It was created by Liam Bononi, who moved to Liverpool last year because of its thriving street art scene and who has already created two murals in the city before his latest piece.

It is on one side of the Wedding House building, in Great George Place, with the view dominated by Liverpool Cathedral.

Liam, 27, said: "The image is of someone close to me, a friend.

"I was attracted by the strong expression and the hands. I wanted to create a narrative of how people re-build themselves to become a better person."

He added: "I came to Liverpool after my friends invited me, because it had a good street art scene."

Liam started his career as a self-taught urban artist in 2007. The expressive eyes and hands on his mural are distinctive features that are present in most of his works.

His pieces can now be seen in many cities in Brazil and also in countries like Sweden, Italy, Norway and Denmark.

Liam created his latest mural with a grant from the Liverpool Without Walls Culture Fund, designed to support artists in creating visual art outdoors.

While he has painted a giant wall on one side of The Wedding House building, his fellow local artist John Culshaw has done a completely different artwork on the other side.

John's is of a Secretary Bird, but with the colour changed to suit the Liver Bird.

The Grade II listed building, which dates back to 1860, can now add both the huge pieces of art to its impressive features including Gothic Revival brick work.

The Wedding House opened in 2003 and it has since evolved into a one stop store for brides and grooms-to-be.
