Breathtaking Glasgow video of Waverley sailing up River Clyde at sunset goes viral

A video of the Waverley in Glasgow has gone viral as the breathtaking clip captures the city looking as bonnie as it ever has.

Such is the beauty of Lucy Small's video that we can only imagine Visit Scotland will be knocking on her door in no time with a view to using it to promote Scotland's biggest city. The Glasgow Harbour resident's clip features the iconic Waverley - the last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world - sailing up the River Clyde as the sun sets on a glorious evening.

The 13-second-long video went viral, racking up over 80,000 views, after Lucy posted it on Twitter on Thursday. She wrote, 'hat a view of the River Clyde'.

Lucy has only been living in Glasgow for four months.

She Glasgow Live: "I’ve always loved boats and living by water; in Edinburgh I lived near Newhaven, in Sydney I would get the ferries everywhere and growing up I would get the Calmac ferries around the west coast. So when I saw the Waverley coming up the river and the amazing sunset behind it I had to get a wee clip.

"I only moved to Glasgow four months ago and I haven’t been on any boat trips up the Clyde, but I would absolutely love to do it. I’m glad it’s universal and that everyone appreciates the PS Waverley."

A wave of comments poured in from Twitter users from far and wide. While one admitted to getting a bit teary while watching the video, others said it gave them a notion to take a trip on the paddle steamer 'doon the watter'.

One wrote: "This caught me off guard and I became a wee bit emotional about my home city. Thank you for sharing."

Another commented: "Great view, my daughter just moved into Glasgow Harbour and I saw the Waverley sail past last Saturday. It was great to see."

A third posted: "I've never been on the Waverley, but this has just prompted me to resolve that, thanks."

While a fourth wrote: "Wowsers, everyone should have a trip or 10 on this beauty. Just bring your own Sarnies."

And a fifth commented: "Brilliant video".
