Breathtaking Edinburgh images show landmarks from the sky as rarely seen before

A semi-professional photographer has captured images of iconic Edinburgh landmarks from a viewpoint rarely seen by capital residents.

Adam le Grice, 20, who is from Monifieth, and his father Ken, were invited to take turns as a passenger in Stuart Stitchell’s two man plane.

Whilst in the air, Adam managed to capture breathtaking images of Edinburgh Castle, Murrayfield Stadium and the three bridges over the Forth.

Ken and Stuart, who both work together, took to the skies over Edinburgh first before Adam was invited to take his turn.

As well as working full time as a home carer, Adam has also had work commissioned as a photographer and says that he enjoys the art as a hobby.

Having started photography four years ago, Adam says that the pictures he captured give a unique insight into Edinburgh from a birds eye view.

On the experience he said: “We were invited out with my dad's work friend Stuart as he has to do a certain amount of hours each month in order to move on with his qualifications.

“The flight took off from Balado airfield outside Kinross and from there we made our way over Kelty and Cowdenbeath, before flying over the three bridges.

“It was strange as we had to get clearance from authorities before we were allowed to entre the city’s air space.

“My aim was to capture pictures from the air as this is not something that can offer a unique picture of Edinburgh.

“I’ve been doing photography for four years now but I have already had some paid gigs.

“That was my first time in a small aircraft. The Skyranger was only a two seater so my dad and I had to take turns.

“It was pretty impressive to see, especially the castle and the Georgian architecture of the New Town. I have passed the bridges, Murrayfield and the castle on ground level before but it is something else from the sky.

“We are hoping to go back out when it snows if the weather allows it.”
