A 75-year-old great-grandmother from Pennsylvania, who recently completed radiation treatments for breast cancer, had an unexpected stroke of luck when she won $5 million on a scratch-off state lottery ticket. Donna Osborne, a resident of Lancaster County, purchased a $50 “Monopoly Own It All” ticket while stopping to buy gas at a convenience store. Osborne shared that she had initially bought a $5 lottery ticket that won her $50, which prompted her to try her luck again.
The fortuitous win occurred when Osborne's family trip to Florida was disrupted by flight delays. Frustrated by the situation, she made the impromptu decision to return home while her daughter continued the journey. It was during this unexpected turn of events that Osborne purchased the winning ticket. Reflecting on the moment, she expressed, “If I didn’t leave the airport, I would have never bought that ticket!”
Osborne scratched the ticket in the store parking lot and was left in disbelief when she discovered she had clinched the game's top prize. Overwhelmed by the news, she sought validation from the store clerk, who confirmed her win. Despite her excitement, Osborne's daughter initially doubted the news when she received the call.
Having been a lottery enthusiast for approximately 50 years, Osborne has a long history of playing the game. She has no plans to retire from her job providing transportation services for the Amish community. However, she does intend to invest a portion of her winnings and fulfill her dream of visiting Alaska. Osborne humorously remarked, “I don’t know what I’d do with myself, I have to keep moving. I think I’ll invest some of the prize, sure, but then go to Alaska.”
