Breast cancer haunts Ros Worthington's family. That's what makes her so good at her job

With at least a dozen women in her family diagnosed with breast cancer over the years, it is no wonder Ros Worthington is passionate about supporting people with the disease.

She is the founder and patron of Breast Cancer Care WA which has been operating for 21 years.

"Twelve or 13 women in my family, my mum, my sisters, five cousins, so many of us have experienced it, it's something I hold close to my heart," she said.

Breast Cancer Care WA employs 26 staff. It offers free services to men and women including specialist breast care nursing, ongoing counselling and financial support.

The money raised stays in the local community and assists more than 1,000 women and their families each year.

"We raise money for practical, emotional and financial support," she said.

"If you need your floors cleaned or some help to pay your electricity bill, it's a grassroots organisation."

Ms Worthington recently returned to live in the Mid West after many years in Perth.

She has brought her charity work with her and over the weekend Cancer Care WA partnered with Women Inspiring Better Business at Baston Grove Olives in Chapman Valley to host an inaugural long table lunch.

"It blew me away," Ms Worthington said.

"It would have to be one of the best long table lunches I have ever attended, and I started them 19 years ago.

"It was phenomenal, and the atmosphere was electric."

A final fundraising tally is yet to be announced for that event but it will all go towards the Purple Bra Day fundraiser on Friday.
