Breakup spells end to Srisaket wedding plans

Patchareewan Kanha Friday described her split with WBC super-flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai as an "amicable affair".

While Patchareewan, 30, admitted that she is "talking to another man", she said the 31-year-old fighter, whose real name is Wisaksil Wangek, also has another woman.

"I can confirm that we have split," Patchareewan told a press conference.

"We have been living separately before Phi Laem [Srisaket's nickname] made his latest title defence [in February].

They lived together for 14 years since they were teenagers and were scheduled to marry soon.

Patchareewan said there were differences between them.

"We both tried to reconcile but failed. We could no longer stay together," she said.

She said Srisaket did not have a problem with the breakup but the matter was blown up by people who use social media channels to talk about an "old story".

News of their split surfaced on Thursday when Patchareewan posted on her Facebook page implying that Srisaket had another woman.

Her suggestion prompted attacks on Srisaket on social media.

Hours later she had another post saying she "is talking to another man" with a photo of her and a man.

This time, online critics shifted their focus to Patchareewan, widely known by her nickname Nong Kay.

She Friday said that the person in the photo was not her new boyfriend and that she had apologised to him and his family.

Srisaket has since kept silent and is training as usual.

Patchareewan added that some information on social media and in the press was not true.

"Some people say I have an affair with another man which is not true. Some even call me a whore which is over the top," she said.

"I did make mistakes but everybody makes mistakes. We stayed together for 14 years and we both had bad points. I won't talk anything bad about him. I will never say anything that hurts him.

"Phi Laem is a human and not a buffalo. He knows what is true or not."

She claimed she had told Srisaket that she would announce their split on her Facebook page and the boxer agreed.

Patchareewan said they had already shared their assets and called for privacy.

"We are now brother and sister. I want the matter to end here," she said.

His manager Surachart Pisitwutthinan said Patchareewan did not show up to try her wedding dress a few days ago.

The fighter, known in Thailand as Srisaket Nakornloung, became famous worldwide when he dethroned then-unbeaten Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez with a majority decision at New York's Madison Square Garden in March last year.

He then knocked out the Nicaraguan in the fourth round in a rematch at StubHub Center in California in September.

After his return, he proposed to Patchareewan at Suvarnabhumi airport. He then beat Mexico's Juan Francisco Estrada at the Forum in California in February.
