Police in East Kilbride are asking for help after a woman was raped at the town’s troubled Lindsay House homeless unit on Saturday.
Over the last six weeks we have been reporting on problems of anti-social behaviour in the town’s conservation Village associated with the unit.
Now specialist officers are asking for help with their enquiries into the rape of a 32-year-old woman on October 12.
A police source told the News the woman had been “seriously sexually assaulted” at an address on Kittoch Street around 10.15pm, believed to be within the unit.
A News source, who does not wish to be named, said rumours of the attack were rife in the Village.
Our source believes a man from the shelter was thought to have broken into the victim’s room “battered her, then raped her”.
The appeal comes after a week of violence and anti-social behaviour in the Village.
Spice Indian Restaurant, the area’s new Lidl store, a florist and St Andrew’s Hospice were all targeted at the weekend.
A second News source said: “In the last week alone I have become aware of four attempted break-ins to premises.
“How low can people go? When is enough enough? It’s time the powers that be truly listen to the growing number of complaints of an increasing number of people affected and respond not with empty, meaningless words, but with action that appropriately ameliorates this epidemic of crime.”
