A woman has been killed after being struck by a police vehicle in Motherwell.
The 58-year-old was walking on Merry Street last night when she was struck by the marked Ford Transit.
The Force has launched an investigation into the incident which took place around 8.20pm on Sunday.
The woman's next of kin has been made aware of her death and her family are being supported by specialist officers.
She was rushed to the University Hospital Wishaw but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The marked Ford Transit van was on routine duties at the time of the incident and did not have blue lights or sirens activated.
Neither of the two police officers who were in the vehicle were injured.
An investigation into the circumstances is being carried out by Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit and the incident has been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC).
Meanwhile, officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
Sergeant John Tait, of the Road Policing Unit in Motherwell, said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has any other information to come forward.
“We would be particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or private CCTV footage from the area.
“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 3309 of September 19.”
