Woman in her 30s raped on Canal Street as police arrest four men

Four men have been arrested after a woman was raped on Canal Street on Wednesday night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene just before midnight and took a woman in her 30s to hospital.

The victim is currently being supported by specialist officers, a GMP spokeswoman said.

Four men - aged 32, 33, 42 and 48 – have been arrested on suspicion of rape.

They all remain in custody for questioning.

Photos from the scene showed part of the towpath running parallel to Canal Street had been cordoned off.

Two officers were pictured standing guard by a canal lock.

A GMP spokeswoman did not confirm the exact location of the attack.

The spokeswoman said: "Shortly before midnight on Wednesday, May 13, police were called to reports that a woman had been raped on Canal Street, Manchester.


"Emergency services attended and a woman in her 30s was taken to hospital for treatment. She is being supported by specialist officers.

"A scene is currently in place on Canal Street whilst investigation work is carried out.

"Four men - aged 32, 33, 42 and 48 – have been arrested on suspicion of rape. They all remain in custody for questioning."
