Woman in her 30s dies after 'struggling' in sea as death being treated as 'unexplained'

A woman in her 30s has died after getting into difficulties in the sea off the Norfolk coast.

Norfolk Police said emergency services were called to Waxham at around 5.30pm on Sunday following reports of a woman struggling while in the sea.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but sadly the woman was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

Superintendent Jason Broome from Norfolk Constabulary said: "Colleagues from Norfolk Coastguard and the East of England Ambulance Service assisted officers with the incident.

"A woman, aged in her 30s, was recovered from the water and she was sadly pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

Her death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

"While enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances leading up to the woman's death, this is a tragic situation and our condolences are with her family."

Earlier today an "unconscious" woman was airlifted to hospital after being pulled from the sea in another incident.

"The air ambulance was tasked by the Coastguard. She was airlifted to hospital."
