Woman, 70, dies after crash in south Manchester - a man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving

A 70-year-old woman has died after a crash in south Manchester.

The two-car crash happened on Princess Road, on the border of Hulme and Moss Side, at around 12.50am this morning (Thursday).

Police said it is believed that the cars crashed after one of them changed lanes, with the other car hitting a lamppost which was then knocked over.

A 70-year-old woman, who was a pedestrian, tragically died at the scene.

A 34-year-old man, a driver of one of the cars, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A police scene remains in place this morning and Princess Road is shut off from Claremont Road to Great Western Street.

The road has been taped off while GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit carry out investigation work.

Police Sergeant Andrew Page, of GMPs Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "This is a tragic incident in which a woman has very sadly lost her life and our thoughts are with her loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.

"An investigation is under way into the circumstances leading up to the crash - anybody with information or dashcam footage of this collision is asked to call police on 0161 856 4741 quoting log 107 of 29/07/21."
