BREAKING: Watford handed FA Cup final boost as Jose Holebas red card is overturned

Watford have been handed a boost ahead of their FA Cup final with Manchester City as Jose Holebas has had his red card against West Ham overturned.

The Greek defender was set to be banned for the showcase occasion at Wembley Stadium after being given his marching orders in the final Premier League game of the season.

Holebas was adjudged to have pulled down West Ham's Michail Antonio in the 4-1 defeat as he broke forward, though their appealed to be minimal contact, and referee Chris Kavanagh issued a red card after assistant referee Dan Cook flagged for a foul.

However, Watford successfully appealed the dismissal sustained in the 4-1 defeat to West Ham and he will be available for selection for Javi Gracia's side when they travel to the home of English football on Sunday.

When are the 2019/20 Premier League fixtures released?

Speaking after the match, Gracia admitted he was unhappy with the decision:

“I kept the same attitude I've had all season. I don't want to change with the last one. I prefer to be respectful.

“I think in this moment I don't want to say what I am thinking about that, but I only say I can't believe a player will miss the final for that play.

“For that contact, I can't believe it. Maybe it was a light foul, maybe a soft foul - but I can't agree with that [decision]."

Holebas had missed just 10 of Watford's Premier League matches this season but his exclusion for the final against City was set to be a significant blow for the Hornets, who are looking to prevent Pep Guardiola's side from becoming the first side in English football to win a domestic treble.

Kick-off time and ticket prices confirmed for Watford's FA Cup final with Man City
