Breaking: Warriors’ Draymond Green suspended for Game 3 vs. Kings

After being assessed a flagrant foul two and being ejected from Game 2 against the Sacramento Kings on Monday, Draymond Green won’t be on the floor for the Golden State Warriors on Thursday at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

On Tuesday, the NBA announced Green has been suspended for Game 3 of the first-round Western Conference playoff game against the Kings for stepping on the chest of Damontas Sabonis.

In a press release from the league announcing the suspension, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operation Joe Dumars announced the discipline was based in part on “Green’s history of unsportsmanlike acts.”

After a Malik Monk miss in the fourth quarter of Game 2, Draymond Green and Domantas Sabonis got tangled up while moving up the floor. After the Kings All-Star big man appeared to grab Green’s ankle, the Warriors forward stepped on the chest area of Sabonis while he was on the ground.

Green was ejected from the game with 7:03 remaining in the game after the officials issued him a flagrant two foul. Sabonis also received a flagrant foul for grabbing Green’s ankle.

During the first two games of the opening-round series against the Kings, Green is averaging six points on 36.4% shooting from the floor with eight assists, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 32.4 minutes per game.

Without Green, the Warriors will rely on players like Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II and Kevon Looney to anchor Golden State’s defense against Sacramento’s high-powered offense. Steve Kerr could lean on Jonathan Kuminga in the frontcourt alongside Looney with Green out for Game 3.

With the Warriors trailing 0-2 to start the series, they will welcome the Kings into San Francisco’s Chase Center on Thursday night at 7 p.m. PT.
