Missing cousins, 8 and 12, found safe and well after vanishing from home at 1am

Police say two young cousins, aged eight and 12, who went missing from a home in the middle of the night have been found "safe and well".

Leah Giles, 12 and Brianna Savage, eight, were last seen at around 1am on Thursday morning in the Greenlands area of Redditch, Worcs., police said previously.

Officers were "deeply concerned for both girls" as they desperately tried to track them down.

A few hours after issuing a public appeal, police announced that both girls had been located.

West Mercia Police said in its update: "Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal to help find two girls who were missing from home in Redditch.

"We're pleased to report both girls have been found safe and well."

Inspector Lee Page added: “We are really very grateful to everyone who shared our appeal earlier today to help find the girls and are pleased to say they have been found safe and well.”

Earlier, West Mercia Police had said it believed the girls left home of their own accord and that nobody else was involved with their disappearance.

The force had released photos of the pair - one of Leah in her school uniform and one of Brianna brushing her teeth.

It said Leah was wearing a special boot after breaking one of her toes.

Before the cousins were found, worried family members had posted links to the appeal on their Facebook pages.
