After some reported discussions involving cutting the 2020 preseason down from four games to two, the decision has been made to do so, according to multiple reports, including Pro Football Talk and ESPN.
With initial reports, the question was just which games would be cut from the preseason. There were a lot of options of which games would go and whether it would be the same games cut across the league or teams specific.
It sounds like it will be the same preseason weeks that will be cut and those will be the first and fourth games.
For the Raiders that means their meeting with the Seahawks in Seattle is out as is their home matchup with the Rams that would have finished out the preseason.
The first and fourth preseason games are the ones that involve the fewest starters, so they are naturally the ones that are the most expendable. And due to the loss of an offseason, NFL coaches prefer to have more prep time and training camp practices than playing a meaningless football game.
The games that remain are their trip to San Francisco for the previous dubbed ‘Battle of the Bay’ matchup with the 49ers and their home preseason opener against the Cardinals.
