Tyson Fury chooses unbeaten Agit Kabayel for homecoming fight

Tyson Fury wants to defend his world title against Agit Kabayel in London on December 5.

The heavyweight champion had been due to take on Deontay Wilder for a third time but walked away from the fight after it was postponed until 2021.

He will instead take on the unbeaten Kabayel at the Royal Albert Hall in his first fight in the UK in more than two years, subject to the German agreeing terms.

Fury became a two-weight world champion when he stopped Wilder in the seventh round of their rematch last February.

He was then due to travel back to Las Vegas for the trilogy fight in July but the bout was delayed until first October and then December.

And when the latest date was also scrapped, Fury began to look for an alternative opponent.

Kabayel was immediately installed as one of the favourites along with Carlos Takam and the former has now won out.

Fury will therefore be a long odds-on favourite to retain his title and set up a unification clash with Anthony Joshua next year.

Joshua himself will take on Kubrat Pulev on December 12, by which point he will know whether Fury is waiting for him.

In confirming Fury's choice of opponent, promoter Frank Warren told talkSPORT: "We're giving the guy we want to fight, which is Kabayel, 24 hours now to sign the contract or we're going to move on.

"He’s undefeated and has a win on his record over Derek Chisora. He [was] the European champion and he's ranked by the WBC.

"That's who’s sitting at the moment on a contract and we’re waiting."

Despite being unbeaten in 20 fights, he has largely shied away from top-tier opposition with his best win coming against an out-of-sorts Derek Chisora in 207.
