Two men found GUILTY of murdering man in Wythenshawe - they face life sentences

Two friends are facing a life sentence after being found guilty of murdering a man in Wythenshawe.

Aiden Matthews, 30, and Joseph Stott, 33, were both unanimously convicted of murdering David Allan.

Mr Allan, 23, was beaten to death in the street following a row over a bike, Manchester Crown Court has heard.

He was pursued by Matthews, after he had pushed a 12-year-old boy off his bike.

The boy's mother told Matthews, who later armed himself with a torch and repeatedly attacked Mr Allan with it.

Stott joined in the attack, kicking Mr Allan as he lay on the ground.

Off duty medics tried to save him but he died the following day.

Mr Allan, who lived in Wythenshawe and had recently graduated from university, had been walking the short distance from his home to Tesco Express to buy some food, after 5pm on June 4.

The 12-year-old boy and two others had cycled close to Mr Allan, who knocked him off his bike.

The boy informed his mother, who then told Matthews.

Matthews then got into a fight with Mr Allan.

Punches were exchanged, and Mr Allan left Matthews with a bloodied face.

Matthews went home, where his friend of 15 years Joseph Stott had been doing painting and decorating.

Matthews told Stott: "I've been done in, some lad's done me in."

The pair got in Matthews' van, and he went to look for Mr Allan.

Matthews got out of the van armed with a torch and ran after him.

Mr Allan was tripped up as he tried to escape, before Matthews and Stott attacked him.

He suffered serious injuries to his head, as well as internal bruising.

The injuries proved fatal and he died the following day.

After a two week trial, jurors returned unanimous verdicts finding both Matthews and Stott guilty of murder.

Matthews had pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Both now face life sentences, with the judge expected to pass sentence later.
