Troy Parrott commits his long-term future to Tottenham after signing new contract

Troy Parrott has committed his long-term future to Tottenham after signing a contract until 2023 in north London.

Making a huge impression for the club's youngsters over the past 18 months after banging in the goals, Parrott was part of the Lilywhites' pre-season tour of Asia and he caught the eye against some of Europe's best teams.

Mauricio Pochettino then handed the player his senior debut in September in the Carabao Cup defeat at Colchester United, with his next appearance in the first team coming at the start of December as Jose Mourinho gave him his Premier League debut against Burnley as he came off the bench.

The youngster has not featured for the first team since the 5-0 win over Sean Dyche's side but chances could come his way over the remaining months due to Harry Kane's hamstring injury.

Supporters would love nothing more than to see Parrott get his opportunity in the first team but they will have to wait patiently for him to get his chance.

Asked about the striker prior to the FA Cup fourth round clash at Southampton, Mourinho detailed the special training programme the club had devised for Parrott as they look to make him even better.

"He is ready to work with us every day like he is doing. He trains with the group, after training he has a special programme of individual development of his qualities as a striker and this club takes very good care of the players," explained Mourinho.

"That is the only thing I can say. If he has to play with us, he will. He will do his best, he will show his good qualities, he will show his fragilities because at this moment he is a 17-year-old kid with fragilities in his game. But in this moment I cannot tell you, it is possible he is selected for this game."

Despite only featuring twice for Tottenham, the 18-year-old made his debut for Republic of Ireland in November against New Zealand.

Fresh from signing his contract at the club, Parrott will be hoping to be involved in the squad when Spurs return to action after the winter break against Aston Villa.

RB Leipzig then travel to N17 for the Champions League Round of 16 game, before Spurs then play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
