Tottenham handed home game if they reach Europa League play-off round

Tottenham will face either Rostov or Maccabi Haifa at home in the Europa League play-off round if they beat Shkendija next Thursday.

Following last night's dramatic 2-1 win over Lokomotiv Plovdiv in their first European game, the draw for the crucial play-off round has just taken place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.

Given the real prospect of having to play three away games in order to qualify for the group stage of the competition, Jose Mourinho will be very pleased that his team will be at home as long as they get the better of Shkendija.

However, as Thursday evening proved, things are never quite straightforward in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League as the team narrowly avoided a huge upset against Lokomotiv Plovdiv.

Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale transfers to be completed

Falling behind with 20 minutes remaining, Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele goals saved the day and ensured that the Lilywhites didn't fall at the very first hurdle.

Shkendija advanced to the third qualifying round following a 1-0 win over Romanian side Botosani, with Besart Ibraimi netting the crucial goal after two minutes.

The play-off round will take place on October 1, with extra time and a penalty shoot-out if required.

All qualifying ties will be single-leg matches once again and the winners advance to the UEFA Europa League group stage.

The group stage of the competition commences on Thursday, October 22.
