Tottenham seal Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg signing as Kyle Walker-Peters joins Southampton

Tottenham have finally confirmed the signing of Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ahead of the new Premier League season.

Linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in January, the player has now put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract in north London and becomes Jose Mourinho's first summer arrival in the process.

Everton were also interested in signing the Danish international after four impressive seasons on the south coast but the player instead had set his heart on a move to Spurs.

Given the club's issues in midfield last term due to a lack of options in the holding role, the 25-year-old is seen as the perfect man to come in and form a defensive shield in front of the backline after their recent troubles at the back.

Hojbjerg will wear Jan Vertonghen's No.5 shirt following his summer exit.

With the Dane sealing his move to Spurs, Kyle Walker-Peters has also completed his move in the opposite direction.

Joining Saints on loan back in January, the right-back caught the eye of Ralph Hasenhuttl and became a key part of their starting XI.

Speaking after penning a five-year contract at St Mary's, he told Southampton's official website: “I’m delighted to have signed here. The last few months on loan have been great for me and a lot of fun too.

"I’ve really enjoyed my football, the atmosphere here and also the style of play.

“The club definitely fits the way I like to play, and I hope that people were able to see that during the last month or so of the season.

“I feel like I’ve already developed in the time I’ve been here, and that’s a big part of wanting to stay too. Obviously, it’s a club with a great reputation for improving young players and, personally, I’ve found it really valuable working under the manager, with his ideas on the game and what he expects from you as an individual.

“I think the way we finished the season gives us real optimism about where we’re heading too, and it just feels like a really good place for me to keep developing as a player and make the best out of what I have.”
