Tottenham confirm permanent Giovani Lo Celso deal and Christian Eriksen transfer

It's one in and one out at Tottenham Hotspur with three days remaining of the January transfer window.

Giovani Lo Celso has done enough to earn a permanent transfer having spent the first half of the season on loan from La Liga side Real Betis and has signed until 2025.

News of the Argentina international becoming Spurs' second signing this month came just seconds after it was confirmed that Christian Eriksen had completed his move to Inter Milan.

The state of play in Tottenham's transfer window

A statement vial the club's official website reads: "We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to convert the loan of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis Balompié to a permanent transfer. Gio has signed a contract with the Club until 2025.

"The midfielder has produced impressive performances after establishing himself in the team following a hip injury which restricted his playing time in the early part of his loan at the Club.

"A former player at Rosario Central and Paris Saint-Germain, Giovani has appeared in 20 games for us so far in all competitions and registered two goals, including netting the first FA Cup goal at our new stadium against Middlesbrough earlier this month.

"The Club can also announce the departure of Christian Eriksen after agreement was reached with FC Internazionale Milano for the Denmark international's transfer.

"He made 305 appearances for us following his move from Ajax in August, 2013, and scored 69 times.

"We wish Christian well for the future."

In turning Lo Celso's loan move into a permanent one, Spurs have saved £6.8m.

"The purchase option [for Lo Celso] can be exercised by this January market," Real Betis vice-chairman Jose Catalan told ABC de Sevilla. "They would have to pay €32million (£27.3million).

"In June [a €40m permanent deal] is mandatory if they get into the Champions League, and voluntary if not. They will have to make the decision whether they buy or not."

Lo Celso and Gedson Fernandes might not be the only new faces at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this month.

Steven Bergwijn's move to north London is a 'done deal', according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira and it's claimed that the forward will cost €30m (£25m) and he's to sign a contract that keeps him at the club until 2024.

So it would appear that all that remains is official confirmation from both Spurs and PSV Eindhoven.
