Tottenham agree to terminate Serge Aurier's contract on transfer deadline day

Serge Aurier has left Tottenham Hotspur after the club agreed to terminate his contract a year early.

Aurier made it very clear to the club that he wanted to leave this summer, but Spurs couldn't agree a deadline day sale.

The Ivorian, who has wanted to depart the club in previous summers, has regularly admitted that he dreams of returning to PSG.

The French giants are believed to have had Aurier as a potential option lower down their list of right-back targets early in the summer, but after securing their main priority in Achraf Hakimi, they were no longer interested in pursuing the Ivorian.

While the 28-year-old likely would've been registered in the Premier League so that he could play the odd match in case of injuries, it was made clear he could be facing a similar season in the wilderness as Danny Rose did before his departure to Watford after Spurs confirmed the arrival of Emerson Royal.

Speaking to Tottenham's official website, Aurier said: “I have really enjoyed my time at Spurs and would like to thank the club and the fans, but I feel now is the right time for me to move onto a new challenge.”

The club have also thanked Aurier for his services to the club:

“We thank Serge for his service and wish him well for the future.”
