BREAKING: Man dies and two people hospitalised with 'serious injuries' after major crash on M9 motorway

A man has died and two people have been hospitalised after a major crash on Wednesday morning on the M9.

Gardaí in Castledermot, Co. Kildare rushed to the scene of the three-vehicle smash between junction 4 and junction 5 Southbound.

The collision occurred shortly after 7a.m. on the M9 which involved three vehicles.

The male driver, early 80s, of one car was seriously injured and was removed to St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny in a serious condition, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The second male driver, 30s, was airlifted to hospital from the scene and is in a serious condition.

The third driver, a female, 30s, was removed to St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny with non-life threatening injuries.

The road was closed to allow for a technical examination to take place and has since been reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision or for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the M9 this morning 20th October 2021 to make this footage available to Gardaí.
