A teenage boy has been shot in Bury and is in hospital with 'life-threatening' injuries.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said officers were currently responding to 'a serious incident'.
Emergency services were called to reports of shots having been fired on Chesham Road in the town at around 9.35pm.
A teenage boy was subsequently taken to hospital with what have been described by police as 'life-threatening' injuries.
No arrests have been made.
No age for the boy has been confirmed by the force as yet.
In a statement, GMP said: "Police are responding to a serious incident in Bury
"Officers were called shortly after 9.35pm this evening, Wednesday, to reports of shots fired on Chesham Road.
"A teenage boy has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
"No arrests have been made and initial enquiries are underway.
"A scene is in place and a large high-visibility police presence will remain in the area."
It's understood a large police cordon also involves Dawson Street and a section of Walmersley Road as well as Chesham Road, which is near Clarence Park.
One witness said in excess of 10 police vehicles were at the scene, with investigations ongoing.
No further details have been revealed.
The force has issued an appeal for witnesses.
