A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after a teenage girl was raped in North Manchester over the weekend.
Police were called shortly before 8pm on Sunday (June 6) to a report of a 17-year-old girl being raped at Blackley Recreation Ground, off Cooper Lane.
Following subsequent enquiries, Greater Manchester Police has discovered that the incident took place at a property close to the park.
Officers believe that the attacker was known to the victim and that there is no risk to the wider public.
GMP says that the girl is continuing to receive specialist support from police and other appropriate agencies.
Detective Sergeant Robert Kennedy, of GMP City of Manchester North's Central Park CID, said: "All of our efforts this week have been to support the victim through this traumatic time and to establish as much information as possible about the circumstances of this incident and who may be responsible.
"Our enquiries have now led us to believe that the attacker is known to the victim and that there isn’t a risk to the wider public.
"We have arrested a teenage boy in connection with this incident who has been released on bail while our thorough enquires continue."
A police cordon was in place at the park on Monday morning (June 7) as officers carried out enquiries, with detectives and forensic investigators at the scene.
