Southampton vs Shrewsbury Town has become the first FA Cup third round game to be postponed amid an alarming rise in Covid-19 cases across the divisions.
Several Shrewsbury players and staff have tested positive ahead of the game and the match will now not take place as scheduled.
Given the packed fixture list between now and the end of the season - it is unclear if the match will be able to be rescheduled.
In a statement, Southampton said: "Southampton’s FA Cup third-round game at home to Shrewsbury Town will not take place as scheduled this Saturday.
"The club received notice of the decision from the Football Association this morning, after a number of Shrewsbury players and staff members tested positive for Covid-19.
"A meeting of The FA’s Professional Game Board will take place early next week to make a decision as to what will happen with the fixture, and we will update supporters as soon as we have any further information.
"The club would also like to send its best wishes to the players and staff affected at Shrewsbury, and we wish them all a speedy recovery."
Derby have already confirmed their first team will not be travelling to Chorley for their fixture on Saturday lunchtime due to positive Covid-19 tests.
Interim manager Wayne Rooney will also be absent from the match at Victory Park.
Sheffield Wednesday also look set to take a youthful squad to Exeter for their third-round clash after the Owls' Middlewood Road training ground was closed at the start of the week and is yet to reopen.
Middlesbrough go to Brentford for an all-Championship tie on Saturday evening and have also been hit by a Covid outbreak.
Similarly to Wednesday, they have been unable to train this week and - should the game go ahead - will take a young side to west London.
