BREAKING: SNP secure election victory in Stirling

Stirling SNP candidate Evelyn Tweed has been elected as the new MSP for Stirling.

Ms Tweed racked up the most votes in the Stirling constituency by a majority of almost 6900.

The SNP candidate claimed 19,882 votes, with Tory candidate Dean Lockhart winning 12,987, Chris Kane for Labour 6556 and Lib Dem candidate Fayzan Rehman 1466.

It means the SNP retain the seat, with Ms Tweed taking over from Bruce Crawford.

She said: "This is where the hard work starts. We have this pandemic get through and that is the number one priority.

"I'm very much someone who is keen to work across party lines to get things done. If the people of Scotland give us a mandate in this election a second referendum is something we would consider going for.

"I would like to pay tribute to Bruce Crawford for everything he has done for this constituency, I know how hard he has worked over this last year."

See Wednesday's Stirling Observer for full coverage of the results.
