Shocking video shows violent scenes between Manchester United and Leeds fans in city centre

Football hooligans have been causing havoc around the city centre this morning.

Manchester United and Leeds supporters were spotted punching and throwing things at each other ahead of the lunchtime match at Old Trafford.

In one video, taken from inside Cafe Nero on Deansgate this morning, one man can be seen violently attacking somebody with a bin and another chucks a wicker chair over his head.

One lone officer appears with a baton in his hand to disperse the crowd as sirens scramble to the scene.

A man standing inside the shop says: "Good job we're in here. Oh my god."

In another video, that appears to have been taken from a high-rise block of flats, police hold back a large crowd of supporters.

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police said: "Patrols in the city centre have been made aware of some isolated incidents of disorder at premises in the area.

"We're working closely with those premises to support licensees at the early signs of any disorder and negate it as swiftly as possible.

"Our priority is to escort people to the stadium in a safe manner and to ensure minimal disruption for the wider public. No arrests have been necessary at this stage."
