BREAKING: Racing abandoned at Hamilton Park following serious incident

A "serious incident" has resulted in today's race meeting at Hamilton Park Racecourse being abandoned.

Two cameramen fell from a cherry picker stationed beyond the winning post. One of the men was rushed to hospital.

An eyewitness told Lanarkshire Live : "They fell from the cherry picker on to the roof of a truck.

"Initially it looked like the races were just going to be delayed but we've since been informed the card has been abandoned. I really hope the two guys involved are alright."

"Emergency services are in attendance and one man has been taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment. The second man is currently being treated at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”

During a live feed from Racing TV at the site the presenter said: "Unfortunately there has been a serious incident involving a couple of our camera personnel and a Cherry Picker.

"The emergency services are currently at the scene now attending to the two injured guys – we don't know much more than that, we can't speculate but our thoughts go out to them and their families."

A Hamilton Park spokesperson said: "Unfortunately racing today has been abandoned due to an accident involving camera crew at the course.

"Ticket holders will be contacted with regards to transfer of ticket or refund. Sending our thoughts and very best wishes to all involved."
