Schiphol Airport flights cancelled as planes unable to refuel at Amsterdam hub

Flights have been cancelled at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport as planes have been unable to refuel.

Dozens of flights have been grounded at one of the busiest airports in Europe.

“Aircraft Fuel Supply, a third-party company that controls aircraft fuel supply, currently has a fault in their system,” a spokesperson for Amsterdam’s Airport said.

“As a result, your flight may be delayed or cancelled. Together with Aircraft Fuel Supply, we we are working hard to find a solution.

It is still unclear how long this will take. We regret any inconvenience for travellers and airlines.”

KLM, which has far more flights than any other airport at the Dutch airport, said: “A large number of aircraft at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol cannot be refuelled, which is causing disruptions.”

At least six British Airways’ flights to and from Amsterdam have been cancelled: one from each of Gatwick, Heathrow and London City.

The British Airways departure from London City to Amsterdam due out at 3.30pm has been delayed by at least two hours.

Wednesday was one of the busier days in the summer holiday period at Schiphol, Europe’s third largest airport in number of passengers per year.
