Sam Wardrop completes return to Dumbarton on permanent deal

Sam Wardrop has made a return to Dumbarton on a permanent deal, after two successful loan spells at the Rock.

The 22-year-old defender completed formalities whilst abroad to secure a permanent move to the Sons, who he first joined on-loan from Celtic in 2017.

Wardrop’s performances caught the eye of Dundee United, however a serious injury saw him make just a handful of appearances for the Arabs before returning to the Rock on loan in January.

He made himself an ever-present in the team prior to the premature end to the season, and becomes the 11th player signed up for the new campaign - which is due to start in October.

And manager Jim Duffy hailed his arrival.

He said: "This is a brilliant signing which we are delighted to make.

"Alongside the retention of Morgyn Neill, Ryan McGeever, and Rico Quitongo it means we have retained all of what was our first choice back four before lockdown.

"Sam has shown in two divisions with Dumbarton what ability he has and we can't wait to see more of it next season."
