Rutherglen MP Margaret Ferrier has been arrested for alleged culpable and reckless conduct.
The move follows an investigation into the politicians’s alleged breaches of coronavirus guidance, where she travelled to London despite displaying covid-19 symptoms, and then travelled back to Glasgow after being told she had tested positive.
Ms Ferrier was suspended by the SNP as a result.
A Police Scotland spokesman stated: “We can confirm officers today arrested and charged a 60-year-old woman in connection with alleged culpable and reckless conduct.
“.This follows a thorough investigation by Police Scotland into an alleged breach of coronavirus regulations between 26 and 29 September 2020. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal and we are unable to comment further.”
It is understood the politcian, who is in her second spell representing Rutherglen as MP, is not being held in police custody.
Ms Ferrier has continued as the MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West despite being suspended by the SNP in October.
She won the seat in December 2019, defeating incumbent Ged Killen.
