Ron Flowers, a member of England's 1966 World Cup winning side, has died aged 87.
Flowers spent the bulk of his career playing in midfield for Wolves and won three top flight titles during the 1950s.
A statement from the club on social media declared: "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of club legend and vice president Ron Flowers MBE at the age of 87.
"A giant on the pitch and a gentleman off it. There will be many people remembering Ron today and all of our thoughts are with those who knew and loved him."
Flowers won 49 caps for England, scoring 10 goals. He made his international debut in May 1955 during a friendly defeat to France.
He played in the 1962 World Cup, scoring twice, and was the oldest member of the triumphant side in 1966.
Only the XI who started the final were given medals at that point, but an FA-led campaign persuaded FIFA to award medals to the whole squad and Flowers was given his by Gordon Brown at a ceremony at 10 Downing Street in 10 June 2009
From November 1958 until April 1963, he appeared in 40 consecutive England international matches; only Billy Wright has ever appeared in more consecutive fixtures.
Flowers began his playing days in the Doncaster Rovers academy but was released by the Yorkshire side and joined Wolves' nursery side Wath Wanderers.
He caught the eye of Wolves boss Stan Cullis and made a goalscoring debut against Blackpool on 20 September 1952.
At Molineux he won three league championships and an FA Cup. He was the last surviving member of the 1960 FA Cup Final team.
Across a 15-year spell at Wolves, the club legend made 515 appearances for the club, scoring 37 times.
He left Wolves in 1967 to join Northampton Town, where he later became player manager.
He finished his playing days at non-league Wellington Town, now known as Telford United, as player-manager before retiring.
In his retirement, Flowers opened a sports shop in Wolverhampton — Ron Flowers Sports — which remains open in the city centre.
Away from football Flowers served in the RAF and became an Aircraftman Second Class at Padgate before being transferred to Hednesford.
His former club said following his death: "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of club legend and vice president Ron Flowers MBE at the age of 87. A giant on the pitch and a gentleman off it.
"There will be many people remembering Ron today and all of our thoughts are with those who knew and loved him."
