Road taped off with heavy police presence after reports of stabbing

A crime scene was in place overnight in Dukinfield after reports of a stabbing.

Witnesses have told the Manchester Evening News of a heavy emergency services presence in Cheetham Hill Road following a serious incident, thought to have happened at around 9pm.

Photos show the road has been taped off, with a number of police officers guarding the area. The Premier store appeared to be in the centre of the cordon.

Greater Manchester Police have been approached to comment on what has happened.

A number of witnesses have told the M.E.N. that police have responded to a stabbing, although this has not been officially confirmed.

Paramedics have also been photographed at the scene.

In an update on Twitter shortly after 4am, Transport for Greater Manchester confirmed Cheetham Hill Road remains closed. Bus services have been diverted and motorists are warned to avoid the area.

TfGM tweeted at 4.10am: "Hill Road, Dukinfield between Buckley Street and Gorse Hall Road. On-going Police Incident. Please avoid this area or take alternative route where possible. Local bus services @StagecoachGM are using diverted route. #TfGMtraffic."

This is a breaking news story and will be updated when an official statement has been released.
