Rewind North festival cancelled over 'extreme weather' with 24 hours to go

Retro music festival Rewind North has been cancelled over 'extreme weather conditions' with less than 24 hours to go before gates opened to fans.

Organisers pulled the plug on the event held at Capesthorne Hall, near Macclesfield, after the site was 'battered' by the elements in recent weeks.

In a statement they said: "We are extremely disappointed to announce that we have had to take the decision to cancel this weekend's Rewind North Festival.

"This is due to the impact that the extreme weather experienced in recent weeks has had on the festival site.

"It is our belief that the safety and experience of our customers must always come first and as such we are unable to deliver the festival in these conditions."

As well as Macclesfield, Rewind has festivals in Scotland and the south.

Any festival goers who bought tickets from one of the official Rewind North outlets will be eligible for a refund equal to the face value. Full information on refunds can be find on the  Rewind  site.

This year's headliners included Gloria Gaynor and Thin Lizzy with Bananarama and Level 42 also scheduled to appear before the cancellation.

While comedian Russell Kane topped the bill in the comedy tent.

Rewind North is a celebration of 80s music and had been planned to take place between Friday 2 August to Sunday 4.

In addition to live performances, the festival also features funfairs, silent disco and a kidzone.
