Sri Lanka attacks: Reports of another explosion near a church involved in the Easter terror attack

Another explosion has been heard near a church in Sri Lanka which was targeted by the devastating Easter terror attack.

There are reports of a new explosion in a van near the Colombo church, where bomb squad officials were working to defuse a bomb.

Footage of the scene circulating online show a fiery blast sending debris rocketing down a street.

In footage from streets nearby, people can be seen fleeing in panic from the area around St Anthony's Church.

Local media are reporting police have said the blast in a van near St Anthony's shrine was a controlled explosion.

Sri Lanka was hit by a series of devastating attacks on Easter Sunday with bombs tearing through churches and hotels killing at least 290 people and wounding 500 more.

Warnings had been circulated that there could be more bombs after the major attacks yesterday.

The Sri Lankan Government has blamed local Jihadi group National Thowheed Jamath for the terror attacks.

There have been 24 people arrested so far.
