BREAKING: Read BuzzFeed CEO's Heartbreaking Letter Explaining Shutdown of BuzzFeed News

Buzzfeed (BZFD) CEO Jonah Peretti has sent a letter to staff announcing that the company has decided to shutter Buzzfeed News. The letter was shared on Twitter the morning of April 20 by New York Times reporter Ben Mullin.

In the letter, Peretti tells employees that shutting down BuzzFeed News is a part of an overall layoff that affects 15% of its employees across its business, content, tech and admin teams.

Peretti also says that CRO Edgar Hernandez and COO Christian Baesler have "made the decision to exit the company" and that Marcela Martin, BuzzFeed's president, will take responsibility for all revenue functions "effective immediately."

BuzzFeed News has been active since 2006 and was a finalist for the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting.
