The Premier League have announced today that clubs will resume full contact training in a move that brings Project Restart closer to fruition.
At a meeting of the shareholders on Wednesday, clubs voted unanimously to return to full-contact group training in preparation for Project Restart and the 2019/20 season getting back under way.
And that will be great news for Leeds United and their hopes of winning promotion to the Premier League in the final few weeks of the season.
A statement issued by the Premier League read: “Premier League Shareholders today voted unanimously to resume contact training, marking another step towards restarting the Premier League season, when safe to do so.
“Squads are now able to train as a group and engage in tackling while minimising any unnecessary close contact. The Premier League’s priority is the health and wellbeing of all participants.
“Strict medical protocols are in place to ensure the training ground is the safest environment possible and players and staff will continue to be tested for COVID-19 twice a week.
“Stage Two of the Return to Training protocol has been agreed following consultation with clubs, players, managers, the PFA, LMA and the Government.
“Discussions are ongoing as work continues towards resuming the season, when conditions allow.”
Premier League shareholders are due to meet again on Thursday to discuss broadcasting plans, the start date for the 2020/21 season and the approach of the league if the worst-case scenario occurs and the campaign is curtailed.
