A 35-year-old man has died following a two-vehicle crash this morning.
Emergency services raced to the scene of the incident on the A723 Carfin to Holytown Link road just before 6am on Tuesday, April 12.
The crash involved a black Mercedes car and a UPS heavy goods vehicle. Sadly, the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed in both directions and remains shut to all traffic this afternoon until further notice.
Following the accident, the nearby Lidl Carfin store was also closed for the day with locals saying a police corden was in place outside the shop.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman told Lanarkshire Live : "We are appealing for information following a fatal crash on the A723 Carfin to Holytown link road, Motherwell.
"The incident happened around 5.45am on Tuesday, 12 April, and involved a black Mercedes car and a Brown UPS heavy goods vehicle.
"Emergency services attended and a 35-year-old man, the driver of the car, was declared dead at the scene.
Sergeant John Tait added: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has sadly died in this collision and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
“We are appealing for information and I am asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who saw what happened or who has dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation to get in touch.”
The Lidl Carfin webpage was showing the store as closed today but due to re-open on Wednesday morning.
