BREAKING: Police arrest man in connection with alleged murder of Amber Gibson

Police have tonight arrested a 19-year-old man has in connection with the death of Hamilton teenager Amber Gibson.

Amber, 16, had been reported missing from her Hillhouse home on Friday, November 26, and was last seen on Cadzow Street at 9.55pm that evening.

Her body was discovered near to Cadzow Glen around 10.10am on Sunday, November 28.

Police Scotland told Lanarkshire Live tonight: "Enquiries are currently ongoing."

Police had earlier moved to reassure the public over safety fears after launching a murder investigation into her death.

Officers say an increased police presence will centre around the Cadzow Street, Church Street, Common Green, Sheiling Hill, Back o' Barns and Postgate - the area known locally as the auld town - as well as at Fore Row and Back Row.

That's as well as within Cadzow Glen the area where the body of the 16-year-old was discovered in woods on Sunday morning.

Whilst an arrest has been made, no charges have yet been pressed on the 19-year-old, who it is understood is being questioned at this time.
