BREAKING: Police appeal for information after sex attack on 15-year-old girl

Police in Lanarkshire are appealing for information after a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted.

The incident, where the teen was grabbed inappropriately, happened around 3.30pm on Saturday, October 16, when the girl was walking along Eastfield Road, near the Islamic Education Centre, in Cumbernauld.

Two boys, both aged around 17, allegedly made sexual comments towards her before grabbing her inappropriately from behind and running off towards Tesco.

The first boy is described as around 5ft 11ins, with blonde/brown hair wearing a grey hoodie.

The second boy is described as around 5ft 7ins wearing a black hoodie with the hood up.

Detective Constable Emma MacFarlane, of Coatbridge CID, said: "This was an upsetting incident for the 15-year-old girl who should have been able to walk along the road without being subjected to that.

"We're appealing for anyone who witnessed this, or has any relevant information, to contact us."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 1499 of 17 October. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
