Breaking: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang shares Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane

Liverpool pair Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will share the Premier League's Golden Boot award alongside Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this season.

Salah entered the weekend as the leading scorer with 22 goals, two ahead of his closest competitors, but the race for the Golden Boot took plenty of twists on the final day.

Mane scored twice for Liverpool in a 2-0 victory against Wolves at Anfield, equalling the tally of his teammate, while Aubameyang also matched that tally by striking twice in the second half for the Gunners against Burnley.

Manchester City's Sergio Aguero was also in the running after hitting 21 goals this season by scoring against Brighton in a 2-1 win that saw Pep Guardiola's side retain the Premier League title.

Unlike other competitions, where assists are used in tie break situations, the Premier League regulations state that in the event of a tie the award will be shared.

The last time two players shared the top-scorer award was in 2010/11, where Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov and Manchester City's Carlos Tevez both struck 20.

Three players last shared the award two decades ago in the 1997/98 season, where Liverpool's Michael Owen, Manchester United's Dwight Yorke and Leeds United's Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink all finished the season with 18 goals.

Aubameyang, who also fired Arsenal to the Europa League final after hitting a hat-trick against Valencia in midweek, had previously won the Bundesliga's top-scorer award in the 2016-17 season after hitting 31 goals for Borussia Dortmund.

The Gabon international is the first Arsenal player since Robin Van Persie in 2011-12 to win the Premier League's Golden Boot and it is also a tremendous achievement for African football, as the top three scorers this season are all from African nations.
