Pep Guardiola makes major Harry Kane transfer statement as Man City eye Tottenham deal

Pep Guardiola has responded to talk that Manchester City are in the market to sign Harry Kane this summer.

Kane has been linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, with the England captain admitting that he wants to move on to win trophies.

And speculation around his future has only heightened this week after he failed to appear at Hotspur Way for training with his team-mates as he had been expected to do.

The Spurs stance is and always has been that Kane is not for sale, with Kane tied down to another three years on his current contract in N17, with only a big offer, thought to be in the region of £150million being enough to tempt chairman Daniel Levy to the negotiating table.

City have maintained that they are not willing to make that kind of offer for the striker, but Guardiola has admitted City would be keen to make a move.

City signed Jack Grealish for £100million on Thursday and they are interested in signing Kane, as Guardiola admitted on Friday.

Speaking ahead of the Community Shield clash with Leicester City at Wembley on Sunday, Guardiola was quizzed on links with Kane.

He said: "He's a player for Tottenham Hotspur and if Tottenham don't want to negotiate, it's finished.

"If they are open to negotiate then not only Man City, many clubs in the world want to sign him, we are not an exception. It depends on Tottenham.

"Jack [Grealish] was different, he had a release clause and he is different. Harry Kane is an exceptional, extraordinary striker, no doubts about that. Of course we are interested in him but he is a Tottenham player and if they don't want to negotiate, nothing more to say and if they want it we will try, that's all."
