BREAKING: Pedestrian believed to be dead following three car smash in Hulme

A pedestrian has died following three car smash in Hulme, the Manchester Evening News understands.

Emergency services were scrambled to Chorlton Road at around 6pm this evening, January 6.

A large cordon was put up between Bold Street and Marple Street with a huge police presence also on the scene.

Other cordons were in place on many of the adjoining side roads, including Mackworth Street and Bankwell Street.

Cars were being diverted away from the scene by traffic officers.

It is understood the person who died was a pedestrian and was not driving any of the vehicles involved.

Two of the cars were visibly damaged within the cordon, both with their hazard lights on.

A third vehicle, a large Mercedes people carrier, was also damaged and was positioned at the edge of the cordon.

It is not known what has happened to the drivers of the vehicles involved.

Specialist officers from the serious collision investigation unit (SCIU) were examining the road surface and making investigations.

It is thought they arrived at around 8pm.

Due to the serious nature of the incident, it is thought the cordon will remain in place until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Police are urging people to avoid the area for now.
