BREAKING: Pair of local schools visited by contact tracers after positive tests confirmed

Contact tracing is underway at two local schools in the region after individuals linked with the sites tested positive for Covid-19.

NHS Forth Valley has confirmed that Test and Protect teams are carrying out checks at Cowie Nursery and Strathyre Primary, with the affected individuals currently self-isolating at home along with the rest of their household.

Health chiefs have also been quick to reassure parents that initial information has suggested the virus was contracted outwith of the school and nursery and they have discovered "no evidence" of transmission within the premises themselves.

Both institutions will remain open, with "robust" control measures remaining in place to protect pupils and staff.

NHS Forth Valley consultant in public health, Dr Jennifer Champion, said: “We are seeing an increase in cases of Covid-19 in local communities across Forth Valley and it’s therefore really important that everyone follows the national guidance to protect themselves and others.

"This includes physical distancing indoors and outdoors, washing your hands regularly and limiting the number of people you meet and socialise with.

"You should also arrange to get tested immediately if you develop any of the symptoms of Covid-19.”

The news follows on from another rise in the number of positive Covid-19 cases recorded across Forth Valley, with nine new positive tests confirmed in the region yesterday (Wednesday).

That represented the highest single-day rise in case numbers since September 6 and takes the overall number of positive cases recorded in Forth Valley since the start of the month to 90.
