Orpington crash: One dead and several injured after two buses and car collide

One person was killed and several more were injured after two buses and a car collided in South London.

The tragedy happened shortly before 10.15pm in Orpington.

The Metropolitan Police were unable to confirm any details about the person who died, or the number of casualties.

Witnesses say between 10 and 15 people were injured.

None of them are thought to be in a life-threatening condition.

Shocking images from the scene show the wreckage of a bus and black car strewn across the road.

One bus appears to have mounted a footpath and crashed into the front garden of a house.

An eyewitness told The Sun: "It was really horrific - the buses collided and then the car drove through the middle of them.

"One person was thrown through the window on one of the buses and it looked like people on the pavement were hit.

"The sounds were horrific - you could hear the screaming."

In a statement the force said: "Police were called to Sevenoaks Road in Orpington at 22:12hrs on Thursday, 31 October following a report of a road traffic collision.

"Officers from the London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene.

"One person was pronounced dead at the scene."Paramedics are also treating a number of casualties.

"Road closures are in place and drivers will need to find alternative routes."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10:07pm yesterday to reports of a road traffic collision on Sevenoaks Road, Orpington.

“We dispatched a number of resources to the scene including ten ambulance crews two incident response officers and our Hazards Area Response Team (HART). We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance by car.

“We treated 15 patients and took them to hospital. Despite the best efforts of our medics, a person sadly died at the scene.”

The London Fire Brigade said in a statement: "Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision in Sevenoaks Road in Orpington.

The collision involved two single decker buses and one car.

Assistant Commissioner Graham Ellis said: “Firefighters rescued several casualties from the buses and immediately undertook first aid, being joined by colleagues from London Ambulance Service.

"Firefighters also made the vehicles and surrounding area safe."

Sadly one person was pronounced dead at the scene. A number of people were injured and were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade was called at 2212 (Oct 31). Six fire engines, two fire rescue units and around 60 firefighters attended the scene."
