BREAKING: OAP in serious condition after being struck by car in Lanarkshire

A 70-year-old man is in a serious condition after being struck by a car in East Kilbride this morning.

Stuart Street in the Village is currently closed with eyewitnesses describing a large police presence in the area.

Police and an ambulance were called to the scene just before 8am after the elderly pedestrian was hit by a vehicle.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where his condition is described as "serious".

Chairman of East Mains Community Council, Bill Arthur, told Lanarkshire Live : "There are police everywhere and the road is closed to Hunter Street.

"We have recently highlighted the speed at which traffic comes through the Village as an area of concern."

A police spokesman told us : "Police are in attendance at an RTC which took place in Stuart Street at 7.55am this morning where a male pedestrian 70 was struck by a vehicle.

"The male is currently in a serious condition at the QEUH and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

"Stuart Street is currently closed to vehicular traffic whilst examination work is ongoing and local diversions are in place."
