BREAKING: Number of coronavirus deaths in Perth and Kinross revealed

The number of people who have died in Perth and Kinross from COVID-19 has been revealed.

Data released today (Wednesday) showed 25 deaths in the region were linked to the coronavirus up until Sunday (April 19).

The National Records of Scotland (NRS) released a breakdown by region as the nation fights to bring the virus under control.

Of the 25 deaths in Perth and Kinross, 17 were recorded in hospital. Four were recorded in care homes and a further four were at home or other locations.

NHS Tayside coronavirus testing rolled out to other key workers

Although the Scottish Government provides an update each day on deaths in hospitals, the figures from the NRS include all deaths where COVID-19 is recorded on the death certificate.

COVID-19 has been responsible for almost four per cent of all deaths across the region this year alone, despite the first death in Scotland not happening until mid March.

Across the country 1616 people had died from the virus up until Sunday.
